It was a pleasure to see staff from one of the leading jewellery magazines - Professional Jeweller - Â here at Assay Office Birmingham.
Kathryn Bishop
(Editor), Sarah Jordan
(Assistant Editor) and Mike Viney
(Commercial Account Manager) were all given a guided tour around each division of the organisation all housed in our magnificent historic building.
They first visited the Hallmarking floor, where members of staff explained the assaying (testing) and hallmarking processes.
The journalists were even able to have a go themselves!
Our resident Polisher "Fletch" was very happy to clean and polish both Kathryn and Michael's rings while they visited the laser marking department. Â They looked brand new once he had finished!!
Their next stop was a visit to the  SafeGuard Jewellery, Watch and Silverware Valuation Division, where they were greeted by Carla Goodfellow
(Director of AnchorCert and SafeGuard) and Marion Wilson
(Sales and Marketing Director). They were given an overview into how SafeGuard carries out valuations on customers' jewellery, watches and silverware items.  They also had a tour on AnchorCert Gem Lab and were fascinated to see the array of white diamonds, coloured diamonds, gemstones of every type and lots of pearls and even jade pieces in for reports and identification.

The journalists were then taken around the Analytical Laboratory by Tim SmithÂ
(Laboratory Account Manager)Â and were fascinated to see the wide range of chemical testing carried out here on a daily basis.
They really enjoyed their visit and are looking forward to coming back to see other parts of the building, which include the Silver Collection and Library. The time allocated for their tour today unfortunately did not provide them with an opportunity to see all of this. We encourage them to come back to Birmingham in early 2015 as we are on the move and should be in our new building by the second half of 2015!!
