Chaucer Assay Office Birmingham has announced details of an exciting new heritage job opportunity as the organisation enters an exciting new stage in its 240 year history. Marion Wilson, Sales & Marketing Director explains: ‘As we prepare to move into our new premises in 2015, we are committed to enabling better public access to our collections through creating an online, searchable catalogue and database of our silver collection, library and archive items and conserving and developing our collections and their interpretation and display. We are seeking an experienced and enthusiastic Heritage Project Manager to drive this project forward to completion over the next two years. The contract may be extended after this period to include management of the development of collections in our new building.’ Principal duties of the post will include project managing the process of transferring Assay Office Birmingham’s existing paper based catalogues of its silver collection, library and coin collection into an electronic format and migrating this information into a collections management software programme and external, searchable website; supporting four, three-month Heritage Administration staff to assist in the documentation and creation of the electronic catalogue; supervision of an Oral Historian to create an oral history resource for Assay Office Birmingham; and ensuring that the electronic catalogue and oral history resources are promoted to and shared with key external stakeholders. The post is being offered on a fixed term contract for up to two years, with the first six months in post consisting of 70 days plus one full-time planning week at the beginning of the project, which equals 75 days in total.
