EXPERT ANALYSIS ACROSS A RANGE OF SECTORS

A group of ten mature students studying for the RHS L2 qualification in horticulture at Horticultural Training, Kings Heath Park and led by Carole Webb, tutor and course coordinator will be entering the RHS Beautiful Borders Competition at the BBC Gardeners World Live Show 12-15 June at the NEC Birmingham.

Carole Webb said "The students are all very excited and looking forward to building the border and we are all hoping to win a medal!! (Previously my training groups have won Gold 2012 and Silver-Gilt 2013)". The carpet bedding is relatively flat - like a carpet - but very textural.  Plants are then used to create the design.

The official brief for the design is: This traditional geometric carpet bedding display celebrates the riches of Birmingham’s historic Jewellery Quarter. The 3D quadripartite design incorporates many aspects of this globally significant area of Birmingham: Europe’s largest concentration of businesses involved in the jewellery trade is located here and the Assay Office founded here in 1773 hallmarks millions of items per year. The internationally recognised anchor mark is the focal point, representing Birmingham rising centrally from jewellery and precious metals depicted with colourful and textural carpet bedding. Lettering details represent a traditional hallmarking stamp whilst the landmark Chamberlain Clock is also featured.
