K9046_Assay_Office_Birmingham Day School Leaflet.indd Booking is now open for the third Assay Office Birmingham and University of Birmingham Jewellery Quarter Day School, which will take place at The University of Birmingham on Saturday, 21st June. The theme of this year’s event is Art, Craft and Production in The Jewellery Quarter and it is aimed at anyone with an interest in the area. Sally Hoban, Heritage & Training Officer, will provide an update from Assay Office Birmingham; Martin Ellis from Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery will talk about jewellery, metalwork and other decorative arts objects from the Museum’s collections; Larry Hanks from the Pen Room Museum will speak about pen design and production and the late Brian Jones’ book ‘People, Pens and Production’; Brendan Flynn will talk about the Art and Craft of Arthur and Georgina Gaskin and artists David Brammeld and Joanne Powell will talk about their own contemporary art work which depicts aspects of the The Jewellery Quarter today. Gaskin Necklace Sally Hoban, Heritage & Training Officer at Assay Office Birmingham said: 'The day will provide a unique opportunity to hear from a range of speakers about aspects of the Quarter’s past, present and future.' Dr Malcolm Dick, who is the Director of the Centre for West Midlands History at The University of Birmingham said: ‘We are delighted to be working in collaboration with Assay Office Birmingham again this year on our latest joint Day School. These events provide a unique opportunity to hear from a range of speakers about aspects of the Quarter’s past, present and future.’ Tickets for the event cost £36 including lunch.
