EXPERT ANALYSIS ACROSS A RANGE OF SECTORS

The Birmingham Assay Office chose not to send Christmas cards in the post this year. The money saved as a result was donated to Birmingham based charity, St Basils.

The Birmingham Assay Office team met with Steve Rainbow from St Basil's today and were delighted to present the charity with a cheque on behalf of The Birmingham Assay Office.  Michael Allchin, CEO and Assay Master of The Birmingham Assay Office presents Steve Rainbow and St Basils with a cheque for £500.

St Basils works with young people aged 16-25 who are homeless or at risk of homelessness They help over 5000 young people per year across Birmingham, Solihull, Worcestershire and the Coventry area.

St Basils prevent youth homelessness with a helpline, advice, a schools project and a family mediation service. For young people who have become homeless, St Basils has a range of supported options from emergency projects that are staffed 24/7 onto varying degrees of semi-independent accommodation. They also have designated support services which aim to help young people realise a brighter future by gaining the skills needed to move on successfully to independent living and access education, training and employment, in order to develop confidence, skills and opportunities, and ultimately stop the cycle of homelessness.

The BIG SleepOut is a sponsored challenge to sleep rough for one night in St Basils car park in Digbeth, Birmingham to remind ourselves of why it is important to have services which prevent young people becoming homeless.

Sleep Out so young people don't have to!

This years St Basils Big SleepOut 2013 took place on Friday 6th December 2013 and Steve said it was a huge success and the 2014 event is now open for registration!
