The Birmingham Assay Office are regular attendees at the annual National Pawnbrokers Association Conference and are always pleased to support and contribute to it.  This year was no exception and Marie Brennan and Carla Goodfellow joined Michael Allchin for what has been deemed “the best NPA Conference yet”.  Michael joined an impressive line up of speakers covering a wide variety of relevant topics and this year, his last before retirement, Michael formed a double act. Philip Newman of the Independent Precious Metals Consultancy, Metals Focus explored the global dynamics of the all important gold prices while Michael analysed their impact on the UK market which pawnbrokers are operating in.  NPA Chief Executive Ray Perry expressed the Association’s gratitude to Michael for his contribution over several years and marked his valedictory presentation with a bottle of champagne which Michael really appreciated. After an intensive day’s business it was time for some fun and the evening dinner was the usual lively affair. The usual Charity Auction raised over £12,000 for the NSPCC and the annual awards ceremony created a string of industry stars including The Money Shop who won the coveted Employer of the Year Award, sponsored by The Birmingham Assay Office.  NPA Chief Executive, Ray Perry, said ‘It was wonderful to bring everyone together after the NPA conference during the day to jointly celebrate the pawn-broking industry and our members’ excellent work. Thanks to everyone that entered the different awards categories, the judges had a tough job selecting winners from the outstanding entries.
