A collection of Arabesque-inspired rings has helped Hannah Kimber win this yearâs Gemvision Matrix Award.
Kimber is a graduate of the Birmingham City University School of Jewellery. The student award recognises not only creative design and craftsmanship, but also the use of Matrix CAD software.
Gemvisionâs Graham Dicks, one of the judges, said: âHannah shows great understanding of the sophisticated design techniques of Matrix with her beautiful collection and she is a thoroughly deserving winner."
Kimber praised the Matrix CAD software for helping take her designs from conception to commercially viable collections: âUsing the amazing rendering capabilities of Matrix means I was able to make my designs look stunningly realistic and unique. Itâs great as it gives me the creative freedom to refine the basic power of Rhino 3D software and produce brilliantly lifelike 3D representations of my designs.''
âUsing the gem tool gave me so much more control over the layout of gems â and it was very straightforward to use. And given my pieces are 6cm high, having the ability to weigh them means I can work out accurate costs.'' She said.
