REACH is the European Union regulation for chemicals and their safe use.
The REACH regulation impacts on manufacturers and importers by controlling chemicals and substances that are carcinogenic, mutagenic, reproductive toxins or very persistent in the environment.
Visitors who trade in costume jewellery and accessories need to understand this increasingly demanding legislation, and the growing concerns about nickel, lead, cadmium and other potentially harmful metals.

Nickel allergy[/caption]
An estimated 10% â 15% of women and 2 â 5% of men in Europe are nickel-sensitised, so the danger of a customer suffering bad reactions from a non-conforming product is significant. Previous short, spot and quick tests offered by various laboratories will not be sufficiently accurate to determine compliance with the new revised REACH standards.
After extensive research, The Laboratory has developed a
new âQuick Nickelâ method for testing to the new standards. It is currently the only fully researched, UKAS accredited alternative to a full reference test. The test, with its five day turnaround and 98.8% accuracy rate, is
exclusive to The Laboratory.
