After the successful Boulton 2009 Conference at the University of Birmingham, which The Birmingham Assay Office sponsored, respected academic publishers Ashgate commissioned the book based on a selection of the Conference papers. Dr Sally Baggott, the then curator of The Assay Office, co-edited the book and her paper was also included in it.Â
The launch, which was attended by over forty academics and other interested parties from the heritage community, was a resounding success. In addition to Dr Sally Baggott, the co-editors were Kenneth Quickenden, Birmingham Institute of Art and Design and Malcolm Dick, University of Birmingham
