On Sunday 2
nd June nine members of staff from The Birmingham Assay Office are taking up the challenge of the Great Midlands Fun Run 2013, which is a testing 8.5 mile course around the Sutton Coldfield area.
The Assay Allstars Team is made up of Michael Allchin (CEO), Marie Brennan (Business Relations Manager), Sophie Whitehouse (AnchorCert Marketing Coordinator), Anu Manchanda (Senior Gemmologist), Steven Franklin,(Laboratory Marketing Coordinator), Antony Charalambous (Laboratory Admin), Liz Brogan (Hallmarking Sub Office Supervisor), Karen Reilly (Hallmarking Sub-office) and Luke Summlar, (Laboratory Admin).
The Team are running to support the Muscular Dystrophy Campaign (MD) which is a collective name for over sixty conditions that have one thing in common, a progressive weakening and wasting of the bodyâs muscles. Over 70,000 babies, children and adults in the UK have some form of Muscular Dystrophy. One of the most common forms is Duchenne MD which affects boys from birth, confining them to a wheelchair at a very early age. Most conditions result from a genetic fault and the majority are progressive, causing the muscles to weaken and waste over time. The severity of disability varies greatly but there is no escape from Muscular Dystrophy and many affected children do not live to adulthood.
After 50 years of fundraising, research has made some exciting advances. The Muscular Dystrophy Campaign needs to raise more money so that a treatment and ultimately a cure can be found. It also needs to fund the groupâs care & counselling services which offer invaluable support to sufferers and their families.
Please help us to support this wonderful and worthwhile charity by sponsoring The Assay Allstars Team.
Time is running out for many sufferers and the more money we raise the more people we can help.
