The Laboratory underwent its intensive four yearly UKAS full reassessment recently, a demanding week of witnessed tests and rigorous auditing of processes and procedures.Â
The Laboratory emerged from this exercise with a recommendation for accreditation to be renewed for ISO/IEC17025 â General requirements for the competence of testing and calibration laboratoriesâ to its current scope of testing subject to satisfactory clearance of improvement actions.
It also added a new test method to its extensive portfolio, the draft revised EN 71-3 â âSafety of toys, Specification for migration of certain elementsâ which is due to come into force in July 2013. This test relates to the migration of toxic elements and now regulates 19 instead of the previous 8 elements and is one of the most important in toy testing regulatory compliance.
The Laboratory will celebrate 25 years of UKAS accreditation in December and during this time has seen the scope of its activities develop and grow to reflect its customersâ changing requirements.
