EXPERT ANALYSIS ACROSS A RANGE OF SECTORS

There has been much discussion and angst about the forthcoming changes to the test standard for Nickel Release EN 1811:2011. The full impact of this change will be realised from March onwards.  The British Standards Institute (BSi) voted against these changes and have delayed their introduction as long as possible. However, time has run out and from 1st March 2013 BS EN 1811:1999 will be superseded by BS EN 1811:2011. After that all items will be tested using the new method. As reported previously  the new standard effectively reduces the compliance level, meaning that many alloys which were previously compliant will no longer be so.  To help customers adapt to the new requirements The Laboratory have invested significant resources in redeveloping their unique Quick Nickel test to create a quicker, less expensive alternative to the full test, to determine whether articles would prove compliant if tested by the reference method.  ‘Quick Nickel 2011’  is now UKAS accredited with results ready in four to five working days.  For more information Tel: 0871 871 6020 or email: testing@theassayoffice.co.uk What is your experience so far with the new Nickel regulations?  Leave us a comment below.
