The Laboratory continues to see a major increase in business from costume jewellery and fashion accessory suppliers, much of which is being driven by the REACH regulation.Â
The European REACH regulation Registration, Evaluation and Authorisation of Chemicals (REACH) Regulations [(EC)1907/2006] has been coming into force in stages for the past few years. It impacts chemicals used by jewellery manufacturers, especially any substances used that are carcinogenic, mutagenic or reproductive toxins.
Relevant restrictions relate to nickel, cadmium, azo-dyes and Chromium VI. Regulations regarding lead are expected in October 2013. The Laboratory at The Birmingham Assay Office can deliver all the necessary testing required and its specialist knowledge and experience is recognised by all leading UK retailers.Â
Many customers rely on The Laboratory to explain the implications of the legislation in terms of the testing required.
To help to deliver this efficiently an interactive presentation has been produced which can be used on a pc or tablet either during a face to face presentation or as part of a training course.Â
