EXPERT ANALYSIS ACROSS A RANGE OF SECTORS

    The students on the BA Jewellery and Silversmithing Design for Industry course at the School of Jewellery, Birmingham City University have participated for the fifth year running in the Charles Greens design competition. This year the brief was to create on CAD a cocktail ring with a selected stone in palladium. All prizes were presented at a Cocktail Reception in late November at the School of Jewellery in Birmingham.

  This was the fifth year that the competition has been run and Tom Green (Chairman of Charles Green )and all the judges were impressed with both the design and CAD work of all the pieces, Tom said ‘each and every piece has its merits and we were delighted with the quality and originality of the work’. However there can be only one winner and this year’s prize of £250 and a week’s work experience at Charles Green went to Nathalia  Guarascio . Nathalia’s design was chosen as the winning piece, not only for its originality, but the strong CAD skills shown by Nathalia. [caption id="attachment_3567" align="alignleft" width="448"] 2nd Place went to Becky Sellors for this piece[/caption] 2nd prize went to Rebecca Sellors, a caged piece that shows the stone off to its full potential and 3rd prize was awarded to Joseph Jackson for excellent CAD work and a well thought out design.  Gaynor Andrews, Course Leader for the BA Design for Industry course and Deputy Head of the School of Jewellery said ‘the collaborative project gives to the students a brilliant experience and we are extremely grateful to Tom Green and Phillip Beale, the company designer, for their continued support and amazing generosity. [caption id="attachment_3568" align="alignleft" width="448"] Joe Jackson was awarded 3rd place for this piece[/caption] Marie Brennan, Business Relations Manager, who attended the presentation said “This collaborative project between Charles Green and the School of Jewellery just gets better and better!.  The student’s work on display was simply fantastic.  Well done to everyone for making this happen and for bringing so many key people from our industry together to celebrate the amazing talent that was represented at the School of Jewellery last night!”
