Sally Hoban, Heritage & Training Officer at The Birmingham Assay Office, has been interviewed as part of a new film about Matthew Boulton, who was instrumental in the founding of the Assay Office in 1773.
The film is part of the new History West Midlands initiative, which is a publishing venture in print and online. Dr Malcolm Dick from the University of Birmingham, who is Editor-in-Chief, explains: âHistory West Midlands is aimed at everyone interested in the history of our region.Â
Exploring the rich and absorbing past of the historic counties of Herefordshire, Shropshire, Staffordshire, Derbyshire, Warwickshire and Worcestershire, History West Midlands will uncover the history of the people, events and ideas that shaped the region. This high quality magazine and free website will bring people and events to life.Â
The first issue of the magazine will be published early next year and will focus on the West Midlands Enlightenment, that period when new ideas flourished in the region during the Industrial Revolution. In further issues you can discover how migration shaped our region; explore the regionâs rich inheritance of glass and glassmaking and celebrate the transmission of the written and spoken word in the West Midlands.Â
