Rare Earths are a set of seventeen chemical elements which are actually relatively plentiful but are referred to as ârareâ because they are not often found in concentrated forms.
Rare earth minerals have a variety of uses and The Laboratory has recently been called upon to assess their concentration in automotive parts containing magnets to ensure they meet the required specification. This is specialised work, carried out using the Inductively Coupled Plasma - Optical Emission Spectrometer (ICP-OES) to an accuracy of 0.001%.Â
Technical Director Dippal Manchanda says âThis is another example of our independent expertise being sought by new sectors of the market. Our reputation is spreading beyond our traditional jewellery and precious metals customer base and our whole team is proud of the growth we are driving into the business.â
