Michael's 50 mile Sportive - Why is he doing it??
We can all remember the thrill of getting a new bike. Imagine that multiplied a hundred times if you are a kid with cancer and a new bike or tricycle comes into your life.
To see children suffering from cancer is one of our worst fears. Giving these very sick children and teenagers some happiness and freedom away from ther treatment and in the outdoors brings joy to their lives and relief to their families and carers.
Cyclist for cancer http://cyclistsfc.org.uk/ are doing the job and Michael has decided to help them.
You have seen Wiggo and Victoria, Sir Chris and young Laura winning Olympic gold. You have seen how good they look in lycra. What you haven't seen is Michael Allchin attempting the Cotswold escarpments on his bike.
He admits he doesn't look good in lycra!!. And his legs are not as young as they used to be. Even so he is training for the 50 mile Four Shires Sportive taking place on Sunday 23rd September. Michael is determined to raise enough money to buy at the very least one new bike through Cyclists fighting Cancer and make a huge difference to the life of a child or teenager suffering from cancer.
" I had a new bike last Christmas from my family. Even as a Grandad I was elated. I wanted a challenge for my new bike and old legs. Combining the challenge with the thought of making someone else's dream come true is a big motivation and will be hugely satisfying" says Michael in his usual enthusiastic way.
Michael has never ridden 50 miles in one outing before and the three almost vertical hills on this route are not for the faint hearted. Even the most relentlessly energetic grandad is going to need every ounce of detemination and strength to last the course. This is absolutely not a soft challenge.
Please give Michael your support and encouragement by sponsoring him here. And take just a moment to check out the cfc website http://cyclistsfc.org.uk/ and see what this amazing charity are doing to change children's lives.
Thank you.
