EXPERT ANALYSIS ACROSS A RANGE OF SECTORS

The Laboratory at The Birmingham Assay Office has a new organic testing facility, offering UKAS accredited testing.  Major investment and building work has created a state of the art organic testing suite with complementary tests consolidated into one area and new methods introduced. Fashion accessories are required to comply with a variety of safety standards relating to fabric and leather components as well as those applicable to metals. The Laboratory now offers a complete service for these articles. A wide range of UKAS accredited procedures enables technicians to identify, and, where necessary quantify, prohibited and restricted hazardous substances. These include Azo dyes, formaldehyde (for crease resistant finishes) and phthalates (softeners in PVC and rubber). Tests are also available for other substances banned by the EU, such as Dimethylfumarate (DMFu), a biocide used in leather to prevent mould. These new specialist tests augment the flammability and toxicity tests already on offer. For quality assurance, qualitative and quantitative fibre composition analysis can be undertaken and textiles checked for colour fastness to respective ISO standards. The Laboratory has developed its own unique method to test colour fastness of beads. To find out more visit us at IJL on Stand H119. Laboratory Account Manager, Tim Smith and Laboratory Marketing Co-ordinator, Steve Franklin will also be visiting Autumn Fair International 2012 at NEC Birmingham September 2nd - 5th, to find out more information on testing services or to request they visit your stand, please email testing@theassayoffice.co.uk or call 0871 871 6020.
