  A UNIQUE OPPORTUNITY FOR THE GENERAL PUBLIC TO VISIT THE BIRMINGHAM ASSAY OFFICE & VIEW ITS HISTORIC SILVER COLLECTION & ENJOY AN EXHIBITION OF CONTEMPORARY BRITISH SILVERWARE  - BOOK YOUR PLACE TODAY -   The Birmingham Assay Office in collaboration with British Silver Week is pleased to announce that it is uniquely opening its doors to the General Public and offering limited places on its popular Silver Collection Visit programme – on ONE DAY ONLY British Silver Week has blossomed into the Festival of Silver and The Birmingham Assay Office is pleased to sponsor the participation of five silversmiths who have recently qualified from Birmingham School of Jewellery.  Christopher Hay, Drew Markou, Jemma Daniels, Ryan McClean and Simon Pattison will show contemporary pieces at a selling exhibition in the showroom of Cookson Precious Metals in Vittoria Street, Birmingham. The exhibition will run from 18th to 22nd June 2012. This event will be supported by The Birmingham Assay Office who is running two special British Silver Week “public” silver visits to its historic Silver Collection at The Assay Office to coincide with the exhibition.  The Silver Collection chronicles 240 years of silver-smithing in Birmingham, through Boulton and Fothergill pieces from the 1770’s to the latest contemporary pieces commissioned in the last decade. Guests to the British Silver Week Silver Visits on Wednesday 20th June will be guided up to the exhibition after their visit. Their walk, via one of the Jewellery Quarter’s most traditional industrial streets, will take them from the historic Victorian splendour of The Assay Office building to an exhibition of contemporary silver by five very talented British Silverware designer makers. The Joint Silver Collection Visit & Contemporary Silverware Exhibition will take place on Wednesday 20th June, starting, at The Birmingham Assay Office, with the option of a morning visit at 10.30am or an afternoon visit at 1.00pm. Places are limited to 25 for each of the visits, so early booking is advised.
