EXPERT ANALYSIS ACROSS A RANGE OF SECTORS

Gemworld International are laying on three important corundum classes in the UK in May 2012. The pricing of ruby and sapphire, their treatments and importantly, the assessment of these factors, are crucial knowledge for the Professional Jewellery Valuer and Gemmologist. Below is an outline of the course, the venues (Perth, Birmingham and London), the instructors and the costings. “Corundum Treatments and Pricing”, has been designed by Gemworld International, Inc., the publisher of The Guide and a leading provider of price trend and market information for the international gemstone trade. The scientific adviser for this programme is Christopher Smith, President of the American Gemological Laboratories.

The Course – “Corundum Treatments and Pricing”

The sale of treated corundum has dramatically increased the supply of products sold as ruby and sapphire. Accurately pricing corundum requires the professional gemmologist to distinguish not only between treated and natural, but also between the various treatments encountered in today’s global market. This programme will practically show you how to reconcile the pricing of rubies and sapphires by specific treatment type. The course is very hands-on, so to ensure all participants receive the required attention, the places available are strictly limited to ten people. The workshop has been modified to suit the UK’s preference for the use of the loupe, although microscopes will also be available. Participants will examine a variety of natural and treated ruby and sapphire, over 100 specimens will be available for examination and discussion. The hands-on session is supported by a PowerPoint presentation featuring high quality images of certain characteristics that reveal if and how the stones have been enhanced. Naturally, pricing forms an important part of the course and as such, a presentation concerning pricing considerations is included.
