Dippal Manchanda Delivers Understanding Plating Course at Inditex Headquarters

On 4th October, Dippal Manchanda, Technical Director and Chief Assayer at the Birmingham Assay Office, delivered a course on 'Understanding Plating' at the Inditex headquarters in A Coruña, Spain.

Inditex, a family of brands including Zara, Pull & Bear, Massimo Dutti and Bershka is one of the largest fashion groups in the world, and the 'Understanding Plating' Course saw 65 Inditex employees attend, including delegates from the Zara group.

The course was a hybrid session with half the delegates attending online.

Dippal Manchanda has more than three decades' of experience in analysing precious metals and alloys. His course explained the principles of the plating process and best practices, as well as factors which could impact the quality and durability of plating. The course also highlighted the importance of correct packaging material, appropriate factors to be included in a specification, and the most likely causes of quality or consumer satisfaction issues.

The course was specifically designed to support buyers, technologists and those responsible for quality assurance in fine and costume jewellery and accessories with metal plating.

Talking about the course, Dippal said: The electroplating process is complicated! Explaining it in laymen's terms without oversimplification is sometimes difficult. In some cases, well-intended explanations have led to a huge amount of misinformation and unnecessary technical biases within the jewellery trade. The current course was explicitly written for Inditex, providing the trainees with a broad range of information related to metal finishing and plating operations commonly conducted in the jewellery industry for the best plating results.

This day-long course was a big success and ended with Dippal receiving a standing ovation from the participants.
