The Birmingham Assay Office welcomes local manufacturer to witness the first commemorative mark struck in Birmingham to celebrate Her Majesty the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee in 2022.
The Birmingham Assay Office welcomed Dan Higgs from Birmingham manufacturer, F G H Products Ltd, to witness their silver ingots being the first items struck with the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Mark. Designed by Thomas Fattorini Ltd, the mark depicts an orb and can be applied to precious metal alongside a hallmark.
Dan said. “We are delighted to work with the Birmingham Assay Office, where we are always assured of a brilliant service by a great team of people. We are proud to witness the platinum Jubilee mark being applied to our silver ingots”.
In 2022, Her Majesty the Queen will become the first British Monarch to celebrate a Platinum Jubilee, seventy years of service, having acceded to the throne in 1952. To celebrate the occasion, the body which oversees UK hallmarking, the British Hallmarking Council, has sanctioned a commemorative component mark.
The mark will be available from 1St November from all four Assay Offices until the end of 2022. From 1st January 2022, the commemorative component mark can be applied along with the new year date letter. The addition of the commemorative mark will cost £1 for each article on which it is struck as standard.
Doug Henry, CEO and Assay Master at Birmingham Assay Office, said, “It was a privilege and pleasure to witness the first Platinum Jubilee mark being struck. Commemorative marks have proved popular with UK consumers, and from today Jewellers, silversmiths and retailers can request the mark from the Birmingham Assay Office”.
