The Birmingham Assay Office celebrates twenty-one employees for their long service with a combined total of 360 dedicated years.
Twenty-one loyal employees of the Birmingham Assay Office have collectively contributed 360 years of service spanning from 5 to 45 years.
The Birmingham Assay Office was founded in 1773 to provide assaying (testing) and hallmarking of precious metal items as required by the Hallmarking Act. It has been a centre of expert opinion and independent assessment of jewellery and precious metals for 248 years. Today, it continues as a certification and educational institution providing hallmarking, educational courses through the Academy, jewellery, watch and silverware valuations, metals testing through AnchorCert Analytical and diamond and lab-grown diamond testing services through the Gem Lab.
Amongst those receiving recognition for their contribution are two long-serving employees, Tina Watts and Gareth Griffiths, who both joined the Birmingham Assay Office in 1976.
Rose Nightingale, Hallmarking Supervisor, said, “I have worked at Birmingham Assay Office for over 30 years, and it has been a fantastic journey. I have worked with amazing people to include four Assay Masters, all of whom have been wonderful to work for. Like any business, there have been challenges in particular during Covid, but we got through them by working hard as a team".
Since joining five years ago, Aysha Miah has developed her career and is now working as Sales Administrative Support, liaising with hallmarking customers to ensure they receive excellent customer service. Aysha said: “I enjoy being part of a team of hardworking and talented people who share the same values and vision for the company. We support one another and work together to create a positive customer experience within all departments.
She added: “The most rewarding part of my job is helping customers, especially new customers, through the hallmarking registration process. It is a delight to see the joy in customers once they have created their unique sponsor mark and can start submitting their pieces for hallmarking”.
Doug Henry, CEO and Assay Master, said: “We are incredibly lucky to have such a dedicated, skilled and passionate team. It is important for us to mark the tremendous contribution our colleagues have made to the business”.
