Georgina Southam MIRV, BA(Hons), FGA, DGA, a valuer for SafeGuard, a division of AnchorCert Group, received the prestigious Alan Hodgkinson Bursary at the Scottish Gemmological Association Conference from the Academy of Valuers at the start of May.
The Alan Hodgkinson Bursary was launched in 2018 to celebrate the pioneering achievements in practical gemmology of Alan Hodgkinson, author of Gem Testing Techniques. The bursary aims to create a unique opportunity for further education and training for new, and experienced valuers and to provide support to the wider fields of valuation/appraisal and gemmology.
The recipient, Georgina, was chosen by Alan Hodgkinson himself upon reviewing applicants’ personal statement on what gemmology means to them and the importance of it when training to be a valuer.
The Scottish Gemmological Association Conference at the start of May hosted a variety of lectures and workshops on prominent gemmological topics and the latest issues facing the industry before ending with an awards ceremony which included the awarding of the coveted Alan Hodgkinson Bursary.
After receiving the award Georgina said, ‘I am absolutely delighted and honoured to have been awarded the bursary! I would like to thank the Academy of Valuers and Alan Hodgkinson for the generous bursary’.
