This month, RAPEX, the EU Rapid Alert System for dangerous non-food products, published a post stating that a well-known and popular multi-national high street retailer had been caught out by a necklace containing up to 90% Cadmium by weight.
To put this into perspective, the legal limit is 0.01% in metals and plastics and 0.1% in paints. Cadmium is an extremely toxic metal, listed as a restricted substance under EU Registration Evaluation and Authorisation of Chemicals (REACH). The International Agency for Research on Cancer has classified Cadmium and Cadmium compounds as carcinogenic to humans.
Cadmium, just like Nickel and Lead, can present a serious risk to human health. That’s why, at AnchorCert Analytical, we work with global and multi-national clients to provide quality assurance and control, testing both components and finished articles to ensure the highest levels of confidence.
As well as a modern, highly equipped UKAS accredited laboratory and an exceptional team, you can rely on our independence, integrity and passion for what we do.
We’re focused on ensuring we provide commercially viable testing. That’s why our team worked to create our Quick Lead and Cadmium test, reducing sample size and therefore cost. We also have a unique Quick Nickel test, which saves our customers time and money, providing results in just 5 workings days versus the industry norm of ten.
We also provide intermediate retail-focused Consumer Product Safety training through AnchorCert Academy, as well as bespoke seminars and courses. So, we’re able to help engage and educate our clients’ teams.
And soon, we’ll be able to work with retailers and manufacturers at source, through our new sub-office in Mumbai SEEPZ, India.
