EXPERT ANALYSIS ACROSS A RANGE OF SECTORS

AnchorCert Academy, a division of Assay Office Birmingham, offers relevant, interactive commercial training for the jewellery, gemstone and precious metals industry. One day or half day courses are delivered by independent experts who are current practitioners in their profession. Prices are competitive and the level of repeat business and excellent feedback is evidence of the value of these courses.

AnchorCert Academy is now established in its purpose built facility within the new Assay Office Birmingham and booking for courses for the remainder of 2015 is now open. Full details are below.

Understanding Diamonds

Intended for retail staff who already have some experience of selling jewellery and precious stones. A one day course to improve confidence when selling diamonds. Delegates will study and observe loose diamonds using a 10x loupe and gain a greater understanding of the 4 C’s, diamond treatments, simulants and synthetics.

Understanding Coloured Gemstones

An in depth look at some of the most important coloured stones used in jewellery, including sapphires, rubies, emeralds and tanzanite. Delegates gain a good commercial understanding of these stones. A practical session will give participants greater confidence in identifying coloured stones and their imitations.

Understanding Jewellery Valuations

An intensive one day course outlining the methodology and many different approaches required to produce a fair jewellery valuation, appropriate to its intended use. In addition to basic diamond, coloured gemstone and metal pricing delegates will examine items of jewellery for assessment. Ideal for retailers, pawnbrokers, auctioneers, those involved in consumer complaints or insurance replacement.

Understanding Watches

A one day course to provide a basic understanding of the technical aspects and benefits of different types of watches, improving confidence when selling or assessing a watch. Delegates will handle and study watches closely, and disassemble items using standard tools. Basic practical skills will enable delegates to diagnose possible faults and carry out maintenance repairs.

Understanding Hallmarking

A half-day event including a rare opportunity to go visit the Hallmarking Floor at Assay Office Birmingham. Ideal for those working in the jewellery or precious metal trades, collectors, and members of the public who would like to learn more about Hallmarking, including the history of Hallmarking in the UK and current legislation.

Understanding Antique Jewellery

An introductory one day training course to provide delegates with the confidence to assess an item of second-hand or antique jewellery. It includes interactive sessions on handling, identifying and examining diamonds and coloured gemstones and sessions on Hallmarking and the history of jewellery styles.

Understanding Consumer Product Safety Compliance

A one day course offers basic level training for jewellery technologists and costume jewellery and fashion accessories buyers. An invaluable overview of the current compliance requirements for precious and non-precious metals and accessories. Delivered by industry experts sharing invaluable knowledge and experience from the AnchorCert Analytical Laboratory at Assay Office Birmingham.
