Assay Office Birmingham has a long association with mac Birmingham, based in Cannon Hill Park. It is one of Britain’s most exciting arts centres. Mac’s mission is to promote innovative, creative arts activities in ways which help to establish them as an important part of people’s lives. With its annual programme of performances, exhibitions, film screenings and educational workshops, mac attracts almost 1 million visits a year from people of all ages. Set in the outstanding Cannon Hill Park close to Birmingham’s City Centre, mac plays a unique role in Birmingham’s cultural development. Mac is recruiting for the position of Chair of its board of Trustees. The Trustees / Directors of mac are seeking an outstanding individual with the appropriate personality, leadership skills and experience to lead and provide direction to the board, to enable the boards’ members to fulfil their responsibilities for the overall governance and strategic direction of the organisation and to ensure mac’s values are reflected in the Board’s activities and key decisions.

The Chair will work in partnership with the Chief Executive, giving guidance and support and optimising the relationship between board members and the staff. The Chair will also be available to promote opportunities for and advocate on behalf of mac.

Our Trustees are drawn from Birmingham and the West Midlands region and in addition to their personal skills and experience, contribute professional expertise which is relevant to mac, whether in governance, cultural and arts production, community engagement, learning and participation, marketing, fund-raising, legal and financial matters. All Trustees are volunteers and give their time without any remuneration.
