Assay Office Birmingham recently held an exclusive tour around its historic home as part of the Birmingham Hidden Spaces initiative.
The tour, which was conducted by Dr Kate Iles (Heritage Project Manager) and Marion Wilson (Director of AnchorCert Academy) provided visitors with an intimate look around one of the cities most historically important buildings before we move to new premises this Summer.
Visitors were first given a talk on the history of the Assay Office and shown images of the new building before watching a short film which explained in more detail what is going on in the Jewellery Quarter at the moment, in terms of manufacture, and a resume of the work of the Assay Office.
Attendees were given an 'access all areas' tour of the staff sections of the building!
They were later taken outside to view the external architecture of the building.
Finally, they were shown around the private Silver Collection and the surrounding rooms on the main staircase, which includes the Library, Wardens Dining Room and the original lavatory before taking a quick glimpse inside the Hallmarking floor.
The tour concluded with a warm and positive reception from all who attended. The move to Moreton Street will soon be under way and the "New Era" will begin.
