On Saturday 9^th and Sunday 10^th May, Castle Bromwich Hall Gardens turns itself back in time to the 1940s, yet again!

This popular weekend of vintage entertainment, nostalgia and historical fun returns to the gardens for the 3^rd time.

Throughout the 2 days, visitors can wander through vintage displays and stalls offering everything from ‘40s hair styling, a fully functioning NAAFI and GI vehicles to Home Front laundry demonstrations and singalong ukulele bands.

The event this year celebrates the 70^th anniversary of Victory of Europe (VE) Day, a special time for people in Castle Bromwich, home of the largest Spitfire factory. Just one month after VE day May 2015 the Castle Bromwich factory ended its production of 2,129 Spitfires - more than half of the 20,000 ever produced.

Salute to the past

Weather permitting, the celebrations on the ground will be complemented, around lunchtime on both days, with a fly past of a Dakota plane (C-47). These planes, transporting troops were so important in the D-day landings, helping to end the war.

Come join in the fun and get a feel of what it might have been like 70 years ago as the end of war was in sight.

Join in the singing, browse the stalls, picnic in and admire the gardens, and give one last wave in memory of the builders and pilots of the planes.

The gates open at 11 am on both days and close at 4pm. Admission Adults £4.50, Concessions £4, Children (5-16 ) £1.

Castle Bromwich Hall Gardens is a restored 10 acre walled garden in the 17/18^th century style – just a few hundred metres from junction 5 of the M6.

Over the last 30 years volunteers have restored the site to its formal Baroque glory and now open it regularly for the public to enjoy.

There are 600 species of plants and flowers, formal beds and walks, heritage apple orchards, a holly maze and wildlife areas.

The Gardens have also recently become an RHS (Royal Horticultural Society) partner Garden.

Adjacent to the gardens is a beautiful Jacobean mansion previously owned by the Bridgeman family, Earls of Bradford and now operating independently as a Hotel. (http://www.castlebromwichhallhotel.co.uk/).
