The course offers delegates one of the final opportunities to visit the historic Assay Office Birmingham building before we move to a brand new purpose built building in the Summer.

The Assay Office Experience

This half-day event gives you the chance to go behind the scenes of the Hallmarking floor, which is not open to the general public. During a special guided tour, you will see how Hallmarks are applied to precious metal items and jewellery and have the chance to have a go at Hallmarking. The event provides three hours of Continuing Professional Development (CPD) activity.

The course allows you to:

Tour the Hallmarking floor and the opportunity to have a go at Hallmarking
Learn all about the history of Hallmarking in the UK
Gain an overview of the Hallmarking Act and current legislation
Understand Hallmarks
Find out more about testing methods used in the Hallmarking process - XRF, cupellation and titration
View methods used to apply Hallmarks (Hand, Press and Laser Hallmarking)
Look at Tooling and Hallmarking Punches
Find out about other Hallmarks recognised in the UK - Convention Hallmarks
View Mixed Metal Hallmarking
