They were given a guided tour of the different departments by
Craig O'Donnell (Curator and Valuer)
Kathy McMillen, Hallmarking Operations Director and
Carla Goodfellow Operations Director - AnchorCert Gem Lab and SafeGuard Jewellery Valuations.Â
Their first stop was a tour of the private Silver Collection and Library followed by a visit to the Hallmarking area, where they were provided with a general overview of the assaying (testing) and hallmarking processes.
Rebecca was clearly keen to try out hallmarking at first hand!
Carla then took both Rebecca and Max around the SafeGuard division, where they got the chance to find out how SafeGuard carries out valuations on customersâ jewellery, watches and silverware items.
They also had a tour of the AnchorCert Gem Lab and were fascinated to see the array of white diamonds, coloured diamonds, gemstones of every type and lots of pearls and even jade pieces in for reports and identification.
Rebecca and Max both enjoyed their visit and found it a real insight into the everyday life of Assay Office Birmingham. Â They will be able to inform their members about all of the independent services available to them from Assay Office Birmingham. Â We hope they also had a great time at Antiques for Everyone, which is currently taking place at the NEC, Birmingham.
