The Lord Mayor of Birmingham Councillor Mike Leddy recently visited The Birmingham Assay Office along with his wife the Lady Mayoress - Pauline Leddy.
The Lord Mayor is no stranger to the Jewellery Quarter in Birmingham as he began is working life working for a manufacturing jewellery company learning the trade of a jeweller, including setting, mounting, diamond milling and polishing.  Councillor Mike Leddy's life then led him to take up a position with Lucas where he remained for the rest of this working life.  Lucas was taken over by the US giant and became TRW.

Councillor and Mrs Leddy were both impressed by the extensive level of expertise within all divisions of The Birmingham Assay Office and enjoyed seeing how precious metal jewellery is tested and hallmarked.
The visit was organized during the early stages of the Lord Mayor and Lady Mayoressâs term in Office and they were enthused by everything they saw.
The Lord Mayor said that a tour of The Assay Office was high on his list priorities during his term in office.
The Lord Mayor had tweeted prior to their visit that the Lady Mayoress had expressed an interest in having her wedding ring assayed and this was duly arranged.
We hope that they both enjoyed their time learning more about one of Birmingham's oldest commercial organisations and that they will tell everyone they meet about the great work carried out by all the staff at The Birmingham Assay Office.
